Hi,
currently I am Year Two Leader for the Bachelor of Visual Arts at the Faculty of Creative Arts, Manukau Institute of Technology.
This image shows a brooch I made in our exciting Jewellery dept, I am not a jeweller, but there is some great stuff you can experiment with and I think it is a little like 3D drawing.

Statement:
In my practice I like the idea of breaking
down barriers between disciplines, drawing seems to have less rules than any
other area of art making. This promotes
situations where you can present work across disciplines, dipping in and out of
media and processes, grabbing anything at hand or whatever presents itself that
is most apt or useful to your particular idea or area of investigation.
I like to think of the range of materials
and methodology as hugely varied, unlimited and boundless. Planning paintings
usually involves manipulating lots of found stuff and processes that are
probably not logical.
Making is a direct response to an idea or
image, it can emerge from a collection of images overlaid on my studio wall, of
a photograph of the clutter on my desk / kitchen bench / laundry shelves or a
display in an Opportunity Shop window.
It is interesting to note that often
something is lost in the translation of the immediacy of the drawing into a
more finished painting. I am used to this outcome now and have different
expectations as a result.
